What we take on

Complete bathroom and kitchen renovations, managed by ZA Construction

A bathroom or kitchen renovation involves more trades than most people expect: a builder, a tiler, a cabinetmaker, a painter and the licensed trades behind the walls, all needing the room at different times. We run that whole sequence for you, so you deal with one builder.

Plumbing, drainlaying, gas and electrical work has to be done by suitably licensed tradespeople, and we coordinate those trades so they arrive in the right order. Finishing is part of every job rather than an extra: the painting, sealing, trim and final adjustments are in the quote.

We also work alongside a kitchen company, so kitchen design can be handled from the first sketch through to the finished result. If a job grows into moving walls or reworking the floor plan, it becomes part of our home renovations and extensions in Auckland.

Before we start

Eight decisions to make before a bathroom or kitchen renovation starts

These are the questions we ask at the start. A rough answer to each makes the quote more accurate and the build smoother.

01

Layout

Does everything stay where it is, or do the shower, vanity or island move?

02

Tiles

Which tiles for the floor, shower wall and splashback, and how are they laid?

03

Vanity and benchtop

Wall-hung or floor-standing vanity, and which benchtop material suits how you use the room?

04

Tapware and fixtures

Wall-mounted or bench-mounted taps, and which finish runs through the room?

05

Lighting

Where do you need task lighting, and do you want a backlit mirror or pendants over the island?

06

Storage

How much drawer, shelf and cupboard space do you need, and where?

07

Ventilation

Is there an extraction fan that vents outside, and is it big enough for the room?

08

Appliances and heating

Which appliances are going in, and do you want a heated towel rail?

Order of work

How a bathroom or kitchen renovation is sequenced

The order matters, because each stage hides the one before it. A typical run looks like this, and we confirm it against your job when we quote.

  1. Strip-out

Old fittings, linings and cabinets come out, and we see what is behind them.

  2. Plumbing and electrical

The licensed trades run new pipework and cabling to the agreed layout.

  3. Waterproofing and tiling

Wet areas are waterproofed before any tile goes on, then floors, walls and splashbacks are tiled.

  4. Joinery

Vanity, cabinets and benchtops go in once the surfaces are ready.

  5. Finishing

Fixtures, lighting, painting, sealing and final adjustments, then we go through the room with you.

Pricing

What affects the cost of a bathroom or kitchen renovation in Auckland

We do not publish dollar figures, because the price depends on the room in front of us. These are the factors that move it, and we go through them in the free quote.

01

Size and layout

Keeping fixtures where they are costs less than moving them, because relocating a shower, toilet or sink means new pipework and sometimes a changed floor.

02

What is behind the old finishes

Rot, damaged framing or failed waterproofing only show up at strip-out. If we find any, we tell you what it means for the budget.

03

Materials

Tile size and type, benchtop material and cabinetry style are the biggest choices you control.

04

Fixtures and appliances

Tapware, shower fittings, mirrors, lighting and appliances vary widely in price, and we price what you choose.

05

Design and consent

Custom design work and any building consent add to the job. Whether you need consent depends on what is changing.

06

Finishing detail

Extra tiling, feature walls or additional joinery add time on site.

“Zaine was absolutely amazing to work with! I originally just needed help with a deck extension, and he was the absolute go-to for the project. He did a fantastic job on the deck, but then he had the great idea of adding a louvre system... Next thing I knew, he was helping me source and measure a premium system from Louvre Lounge. He installed the louvre and the deck extension perfectly, creating an incredible new outdoor living space. I am already enjoying the new setup with a couple margaritas (or two) with friends on the weekends. Zaine was incredibly easy to deal with and he did a bloody good job! Highly recommend!”

FAQ

Bathroom and kitchen renovation questions in Auckland

Cost, order of work, design and location. For anything else, call 027 577 5892.

How much does a bathroom or kitchen renovation cost in Auckland?

It depends on the size of the room, whether the layout changes, the materials you choose and what we find behind the old finishes. We do not give a price without understanding the job. Tell us what you have in mind through the quote form and we will talk it through and put a free quote together.

Who does the plumbing and electrical work in a renovation?

Suitably licensed tradespeople do that work, and we schedule them so the pipes and cabling go in after the strip-out and before the waterproofing and tiling. Our part is the project management, so you are not coordinating them yourself.

Can ZA Construction help with kitchen design?

We work alongside a kitchen company, so design can be handled from the first idea through to the installed kitchen. Tell us at quote stage whether you already have plans or want help with the design.

What happens when the renovation starts?

The old bathroom or kitchen is stripped out and we check what is behind it. Everything after that is built on that check, so it is the stage where surprises show up. If anything unexpected turns up, we talk it through with you before carrying on.

Can you renovate a laundry or other small room at the same time?

Often yes, and doing wet rooms together can make the trades' visits more efficient. Mention the extra room when you ask for a quote and we will include it in the scope.

Where do you renovate bathrooms and kitchens?

Most of our renovation work is in East, Central and South Auckland, based out of Howick. Put your suburb in the quote form and we will confirm we can get to you.
